Civil War Monument Restored After Falling
Mercer – Mercer County has restored the Civil War monument that was severely damaged in a windstorm nearly two years ago. The monument depicts a Union soldier returning home to be crowned by Lady Victory and was originally dedicated in 1897. It was restored and rededicated 100 years later, and then, on March 25th of 2023, it was blown off its pedestal by driving winds. Repairs to the monument took almost two years, but the statue was once more placed in its position of honor by the courthouse on Thursday. News Live was unable to discover if the statue would be rededicated again.

PSU to Close Several Branches
State College – Penn State University announced it will be closing some of its branch campuses in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. PSU President Neeli Bendapudi revealed on Tuesday that a lack of funds and low enrollment are the primary reasons for the school’s decision. As part of the announcement, Bendapudi identified 12 campuses that may be on the chopping block, including three in our region: Penn State Shenango in Sharon, Penn State Beaver, and Penn State Dubois. Decisions on which campuses to cut and which to keep will be announced by early May.
