Man Attacks Wife, Attempts to Burn Down House
Oil City – A Venango County man was jailed without bail after an alleged attack against his wife on Sunday. The Pennsylvania State Police report that in Cranberry Township, 68-year-old David Moyer drunkenly attacked his wife as she was in bed on Sunday night and attempted to strangle her and rip off her prosthetic leg. He also allegedly threw flammable objects onto the gas stove in an attempt to burn their home down. Moyer was denied any bail for his extreme indifference toward the victim and reportedly had to be restrained during processing; he was charged with strangulation, attempted arson, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, and more.
PIAA Championship Playoffs Begin Friday
Meadville – On Friday night, the Meadville Bulldogs will host the Uniontown Red Raiders in the first round of the PIAA championship playoffs. The contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Meadville High School’s House of Thrills; the winner will be one step closer to the boys AAAAA state championship, and the loser’s season comes to an end. AA Boys Mercyhurst Prep travels to Jeanette at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and Lakeview hosts Chartiers Houston at the same time while Rocky Grove plays Nashannok; AAA Boys and D10 Champions Mercer plays Ellwood City at home while Cranberry travels to Mckeesport to play South Allegheny, both games are at 1 p.m. on Saturday. AAAA Boys Cathedral Prep hosts Knoch at 7:30 Friday, Grove City travels to Clearfield to play at 7 p.m. the same night, Sharon hosts Avonworth at 7 p.m., and Ferral visits Belle Vernon. AAAAAA Boys Mcdowell hosts Pittsburgh Central Catholic at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Girls A is Farrel hosting St. Joseph at 1 p.m. Saturday. AA Girls contests are Kennedy Catholic hosting Fort Cherry, Lakeview vs South Side, and Eisenhower vs Bishop McCort all take place at 7 p.m. on Friday night. AAA Girls basketball: Seneca travels to Sewickly Academy to play Our Lady of the Sacred Heart at 7 p.m. while Cranberry visits Shadyside at 6 p.m.; both games are Friday night.
