Meadville Athlete Sets Erie County Record, Shows Excellence
Waterford – Meadville’s Tymir Phillips set a new boys’ long jump record at the Fort LeBoeuf Track and Field Invitational over the weekend. On Saturday, Tymir’s best jump at the event was 22 feet, 8 inches, defeating the event’s previous record of 22 feet, 2 ½ inches by nearly half a foot. Earlier this year, Tymir placed first and won gold at the 2026 PTFCA Indoor State Championship with a jump of 23 feet, 9 ¼ inches. His best jump so far is 24 feet, 10 inches, and he’s hoping to hit at least 25 feet by the end of the season, and still has more than a month to achieve that distance before Track and Field Season officially ends on May 23rd.
Some sources erroneously reported Tymir’s jump as a state record, but he doesn’t hold that yet; Pennsylvania’s boys’ long jump record is 26 feet, 9 ¼ inches, set by PA Hall of Famer Dion Bently in 1989 at the Pan-American Jr. Games in Argentina and has stood for 37 years.
