Post-Gazette to Remain in Operation
Pittsburgh – The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette will not be closing its doors after a last-minute deal between Block Communications and the Baltimore-based non-profit Venetoulis Institute for Local Journalism. The Institute will take over as the proprietor of the Post-Gazette and ensure that Pittsburgh’s 240-year-old newspaper will not go out of print in Western Pennsylvania. The Post-Gazette will remain based in Pittsburgh and continue to serve Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania as far north as Trumbull, Mercer, and Venango Counties. Initially, in January, its for-profit owners, Block Communications, announced the paper would print its last edition on May 3rd; Venetoulis will now take over on the 4th.
