Injured Policeman Released from Hospital
Linesville – Conneaut Lake Regional Police Officer Landen Caldwell was released from UPMC Hamot Hospital on Monday afternoon; he is said to be in good health. As has been reported previously, Officer Caldwell was stabbed outside of a laundromat in Linesville on Thursday, December 4th, when he responded to a 4 a.m. disturbance call. Adam Mitchell is the suspect for the stabbing and has been charged with attempted homicide. In the attack, Officer Caldwell suffered injuries to his right hand and to his face, including damage near his carotid artery. After being subdued, Mitchell allegedly taunted him that he would bleed to death.
Man Uses Child as Human Shield Against Police
Girard – Robert Avalos of Lake City has been charged with several felonies and other crimes after an alleged hostage situation in Erie County. According to the Pennsylvania State Police, on the day before Thanksgiving, at about 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon, Avalos fled from a traffic stop in Erie County’s Girard Township and ditched his vehicle outside of a home. He entered the house and allegedly picked up a three-year-old child to use as a human shield to prevent his apprehension by police.
