Boil Water Advisory for All MAWA Customers
Meadville – A boil water advisory is in effect for all Meadville Area Water Authority customers in Meadville and surrounding townships until Friday night. A large, complex break in the mainline forced MAWA to shut off water service to most of its customers on Tuesday, and once repairs were complete, the advisory began. Any tap water being used for ingestion – drinking, cooking, brushing your teeth, etc. should be boiled before use because of the potential risk for sediments and bacteria. Bring the water to a complete rolling boil, and then allow it to cool before using. The Meadville Fire Department at 850 Park Avenue has cases containing six one-gallon jugs of water and is distributing one per household while supplies last; call (814)333-3325 with any questions.
Two Arrested for Death of Aimee
Erie – We mentioned in a story yesterday that two people had been arrested for felony crimes after the death of a husky puppy that rescuers named Aimee. One woman and one man, Tori Jackna and Scott Bayle Jr. of Erie, have both been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, animal cruelty, animal neglect, and other charges; each has been remitted to Erie County Jail on $15,000 bail. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for February 12th.
Aimee was a six-month-old husky puppy discovered locked in a kennel beneath a bridge in Erie on January 19th; she had been abandoned long enough to suffer from hypothermia and starvation.
Celebrating 25 Years of Project Support Our Troops
Meadville – Project Support Our Troops marked its 25th anniversary on Tuesday. The volunteer outreach program, which sends care packages to deployed US Servicemembers has operated out of Veterans of the Vietnam War post 52 for two and a half decades. In its time, Project Support Our Troops has sent out tens of thousands of care packages sourced from the local area and has partnered with Rocky 94.3 and 107.7 with their Voices for Vets segment since 2009. Congressman Mike Kelly paid a visit to Post 52 to mark the occasion on Tuesday morning, and then more boxes were packed and shipped, just like it was any other day.
