Sexual Assault and Strangulation in Mercer
Mercer – In Mercer County, a man has been charged with multiple felonies after police say he sexually assaulted and tried to suffocate a woman after an argument. According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the victim awoke on the morning of July 15th to find 60-year-old Gerald Dailey attempting to smother her with a pillow at around 2:30 a.m. When she fought back, Dailey allegedly sexually assaulted her and fled the scene. He was arrested by State Troopers in Centerville the same day. Dailey is charged with felonies and misdemeanors for strangulation and indecent assault, and court records indicate was released on $25,000 bail secured through a bondsman.

Beaver – A former policeman and school resource officer has been arrested on child pornography charges in Beaver County. PA Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the arrest of 68-year-old Peter Benedict Jr. on 11 felony counts of possessing child sexual abuse material on Wednesday. According to the AG, the conduct for which he was arrested did not occur during Benedict’s tenure as a police officer in Brighton Township, but after his retirement in 2023.
