Cranston Sentenced for Byler Murder
Meadville – In Crawford County, Shawn Cranston of Corry was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences on Monday. In June, Cranston was convicted of the 2024 murder of Rebekah Byler and an unborn child in Sparta Township. He was issued a sentence of life without any chance of parole for the first-degree homicide of Rebekah, and a separate life sentence for second-degree homicide of the unborn child. Assistant Chief Deputy Attorney General Evan Lowry and Deputy Attorney General Kevin Scheibel handled the prosecution of the case on behalf of the Crawford County District Attorney.

Congressman’s Office Vandalized
Hermitage – Police are investigating an incident of vandalism at the Hermitage office of Congressman Mike Kelly. Multiple messages, including one that said ‘mental health is not a crime,’ were found spray-painted in red at the scene Saturday morning. Kelly is a Republican who represents Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District, which includes Mercer, Erie, Crawford, Lawrence, and Butler Counties as well as portions of Venango County. He only recently moved his Congressional Office in Mercer County from Sharon to Hermitage.
