Juneteenth at the Tannery
Meadville – Meadville 1825, the Crawford County NAACP, FCCA, Salvation Army, and the John Brown Heritage Foundation invite everyone to join them this weekend for a commemoration of Juneteenth at the site of John Brown’s tannery. This Saturday, June 21st, at John Brown’s Tannery from 1-3:30 p.m. is a celebration of the end of slavery in the United States and Crawford County’s role as a major stop on the route of the Underground Railroad. The Mistress of Ceremonies, Maria Rosado-Husband, will lead a procession of guests and speakers covering topics surrounding the history of Crawford County with a focus on African American heritage and the life and Times of John Brown during his time running a tannery and assisting escaped slaves on the Underground Railroad in the 1820s. Following the presentation, there will be time for food and fellowship, and to visit the exhibit that stands in place of the old tannery. John Brown Tannery is located at 17620 John Brown Road in Guys Mills; CATA will be providing a shuttle service from Diamond Park to the event at 12:30.
