Police and Coroner Investigate Suicide
Erie – In Erie County, a woman died after jumping from a bridge on Interstate 90 on Friday. According to authorities, witnesses saw her exit a vehicle and jump off the bridge carrying the interstate over a creek known as Six Mile Run at about 6:45 p.m. At press time, Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook had not released many details about the woman and may not have completed identification; it was reported that the woman was 40 to 50 years old and carried no identification on her when she jumped. An investigation is ongoing.
Air Quality Alert for Ozone Levels
Northwest PA – The EPA has issued a Code Orange air quality alert in several Pennsylvania Counties today, including Erie County and Mercer County in Northwestern Pennsylvania. In addition to the high heat, the EPA has forecasted high levels of the pollutant Ozone, which could be dangerous for people in sensitive groups such as children, the elderly, people with heart disease, and anyone with a breathing or lung condition such as asthma. Ozone levels are expected to be low in the morning but drastically increase in the afternoon. High temperatures today are once again expected to be 15-20 degrees higher than normal and heat advisories and warnings are still in effect.
