Thousands Lose Power Amid Heatwave
Erie County – According to Penelec, no reason has been discovered for a power outage that left thousands of Erie County residents without electricity overnight. Power outages near the Erie Lakeshore began just before 9:30 p.m. last night, and by 10 p.m., there were more than 5,800 people without electricity, the majority of them in northern Erie County. At press time, the outage map for First Energy Company, Penelec’s Parent Company and primary provider for the region, showed numerous outages persisting at 6:00 a.m. this morning, and an updated check around two hours later showed that more people had lost power in Avonia and that further resources were needed for a complex fix. Crews are working to restore service before it gets hotter.
