Cranston Trial Jury Selection Begins
Meadville – Jury selection begins for the second time in the homicide trial of 53-year-old Shawn Cranston of Corry. Cranston is accused of the homicide of Rebekah Byler, a young mother and part of the Spartansburg Amish community, on February 26th of last year; she was pregnant with her third child at the time of her death. The trial was originally scheduled for March, but there was new evidence in the case, and Crawford County’s District Attorney Paula DiGiacomo requested assistance with the prosecution from the Attorney General’s office, which delayed the trial for three months. The trial is expected to play out for a long time, jurors will hear testimony from around 40 witnesses and see around 20 pieces of evidence.
