Hidden Valley School Fire
Spartansburg – Three girls were injured when a fire destroyed an Amish schoolhouse in Spartansburg, and all three were airlifted to hospitals. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, but it is believed that the wrong oil being used in either a stove or a lantern caused the blaze at Hidden Valley School. Two female students and their teenage teacher were badly burned in the fire. Several local businesses have set up donation jars to raise money for the victim’s medical costs: Country Cupboard, Slocum’s Store, Ashley Pub BBQ, and Bova’s Hardware. Bova’s will also accept checks through the mail for donations at PO Box 207, Spartansburg, PA, 16434.
Stand for the Silent Still On
Meadville – Organizer Alison Duiker says Stand for the Silent, a peaceful gathering honoring Lonene Rogers, survivors of domestic violence, and families with missing loved ones, is still planned from 9:00 to 11:00 this morning, despite the court hearing for the man who confessed to Lonene’s murder being delayed. Stand for the Silent will take place outside the courthouse on Meadville’s Diamond Park this morning. Alison is the daughter of Lonene; her own father confessed to Lonene’s murder, but the prosecutor needs more time to gather evidence for a trial.
