Asbestos Found in School Outbuilding
Meadville – Crawford County Career and Technical Institute has informed families that some students may have been exposed to asbestos during renovations of one of the school’s buildings. Potential exposures happened at the former Integrity Auto building on February 9th, 10th, 18th, and 20th, while remedial work was being done on the structure. Everyone who they believe may have been exposed has already been contacted by Career and Tech. The former Ingrety Auto building is located on Old Ellis Road in Meadville. The school is working to take preventative measures.

Flags at Half-Staff Saturday
NWPA – All United States and Commonwealth flags on public buildings and grounds in Pennsylvania will fly at half mast on Saturday, March 7th, in honor of the late Reverend Jesse Jackson; private individuals are invited but not required to do the same. Reverend Jackson was a modern Civil Rights activist who visited PA innumerable times to champion labor rights and civil rights in Erie, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and many places in between. Reverend Jackson died last month at the age of 84. His most recent notable visit to our area was in October 2024.

Torture Charges for Animal Abuser
Haborcreek – A man has been charged with torture by the Pennsylvania State Police after his dog was discovered zip-tied and critically injured in Harborcreek. 63-year-old Roy King is remanded to Erie County Prison for torture, aggravated cruelty to animals, cruelty to animals, and animal neglect. On Thursday, his bail was set at $50,000. A dog belonging to King was discovered bleeding from a severe injury and suffering from a painful skin condition, with zip-ties holding its paws together on Tuesday afternoon.

High-Speed Pursuit
Sugarcreek – Michael Richard Stanley of Oil City was arrested last Sunday after allegedly leading Sugarcreek Boro Police officers on a high-speed pursuit that exceeded 100 miles per hour. According to the police, the 22-year-old was spotted by a patrol vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed down Allegheny Boulevard, with a posted speed limit of 45 miles per hour. During the pursuit, the officers involved claim speeds ranged from 80 to 110 miles per hour along the boulevard and onto Front Street, where they were forced to stop due to congestion. Stanley was released on bail on Tuesday morning.
