Honor Guard for Fallen WWII Soldier Returning Home
NWPA – Traffic delays are possible in different regions of Western and Northwestern PA this afternoon as the Pennsylvania State Police escort the remains of a fallen World War II hero to his final resting place in Warren County. Corporal Glenn Hodak was a B-29 tailgunner in World War II. He was born in Cambridge Springs in 1922 and later moved to Youngsville before joining the US Army Air Corps as an adult. In 1945, Glenn and the rest of his crew were listed as Missing in Action when his aircraft, nicknamed ‘Tall in the Saddle’, was shot down while on a mission to Japan. He was later confirmed to be a prisoner of war in Tokyo Military Prison, and unfortunately, like the other prisoners there became a casualty of friendly fire during the fire bombings of Tokyo.
This afternoon, around 3:30 P.M., Corporal Glenn Hodak’s recently identified remains will be transported from Pittsburgh International Airport along Interstate 79, take a 30 minute break at Barkeyville, and then travel through Franklin by 6 P.M., bypass Oil City, and reach Titusville around 6:30 P.M.; it will take Enterprise Road to Highway 6 and then travel to Youngsville. The escort convoy will contain dozens or hundreds of vehicles and take some time to pass.
