Meadville Memorial Observance Monday
Meadville – Meadville’s Memorial Day Parade takes place at the Diamond Park on Monday morning, May 25th. This year’s theme is 250 Years of Ultimate Sacrifice for Our Freedom. The parade line-up starts on South Main Street at 8:30 a.m., and the parade begins at 10 a.m. As is tradition, the parade will be followed by the pre-recorded reading of the names of every Crawford Countian who died serving the nation since WWI. There will also be a free concert and a solemn observance for our fallen; the event ends at noon with the tolling of every church bell in town.
South Main Street will be closed from 9:30 until the parade ends, and all the streets around the diamond will be closed until at least noon. This year’s Parade Marshall and special guest speaker is retired Lt. Colonel Gary Hugh. Hugh began his career as an enlisted man and was commissioned as a lieutenant in the field during Vietnam; he went on to serve for more than 20 years as an officer in the United States Army.
