One Killed in Fiery Accident
Erie – According to the Pennsylvania State Police and Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook, work is being done to identify a man killed by a vehicle fire on Memorial Day. Crash scene investigators say that a lone man was driving a van on Route 97 in Erie County’s Summit Township when it appears he lost control of the vehicle. The van ran off the left side of the roadway and became stuck in a drainage ditch, where it caught on fire. The driver could not escape the fire; he was declared dead at 10:30 p.m. The van is registered to an Erie area resident, but investigators have not concluded if they were driving the van at the time.


Kennywood, Other Parks Purchased by New Owners
West Mifflin – One of Pennsylvania’s most famous amusement parks is under new management. Kennywood, in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, is now under the umbrella of Herschend. Herschend calls itself the largest family held theme attractions company in the world and possesses Dollywood and the Harlem Globetrotters among others. On Tuesday, it was announced that Herschend acquired all of Palace Entertainment’s theme parks and now owns the Pennsylvania amusement parks Kennywood, Sandcastle, and Idlewild & SoakZone. Herschend announced no major changes to any of their new acquisitions, instead, a spokesperson has said that they will be spending the next year or two getting to know the parks.
