Unofficial Election Results
Pennsylvania – Preliminary results for yesterday’s municipal elections are in. In the statewide contests, the Democratic Party had a very strong showing. All three Supreme Court judges up for retention were elected as Democrats and have retained their seats with a nearly ⅔ majority. Democratic candidates Brandon Nuemon and Stella Tsai were elected to the Superior and Commonwealth Courts, respectively, and all current judges retained their offices. 1825 Presents: The Holland Land Company
Meadville – In the year 1825, the Holland Land Company was where you bought real estate from if you wanted to settle in Crawford or Erie Counties. Created shortly after the revolution, the Holland Land Company purchased most of the land that is now Crawford and Erie Counties, as well as much of Western New York, and sold it to Americans looking to settle west. Two of Meadville’s prominent early leaders, Roger Alden and Harm Jan Huidekoper, were part of this unincorporated group with dreams of fast sales and great wealth. Join Meadville 1825 and the executive director of the Crawford County Historical Society, Joshua Sherretts, this Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Steroscopic Museum, on the grounds of the old Holland Land Company Office on 423 Chestnut Street, for the history of the company that sold Meadville.
Father, Baby, Hospitalized after Head-On Crash
Woodland Heights – A young father and his newborn child were airlifted to hospitals after a crash in late October. The Pennsylvania State Police released the details of a major crash that happened in Venango County last month. 29-year-old Jared Proper of Seneca and his newborn daughter were taken to UPMC Northwest and then flown by helicopter to UMPC Mercy and UPMC Children’s hospitals. Crash scene investigators suspect Proper was DUI on October 20th when he suddenly swerved into the opposing lane and collided head-on with another driver on Route 257 in Cranberry Township. The other driver was also taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
AG Charges Company for Polluting
Harrisburg – In State News, Attorney General Dave Sunday has announced charges against an oil and gas company operating in Pennsylvania. The AG alleges that Seneca Resources LLC violated Pennsylvania’s environmental laws on multiple occasions. Seneca Resources is being charged with over 100 specific violations of the Solid Waste Management Act and the Clean Streams Law in Lycoming, Tioga, Potter, Clearfield, Elk, McKean, Jefferson, and Cameron Counties. Chief Deputy Attorney General Rebecca Franz will prosecute.
