Police Vehicle Hits Car in Erie
Erie – For the second time in a month, a police vehicle collided with a car at the intersection of West 11th and Sassafras Streets in Erie. This time, at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, an SUV containing two officers hit a light colored Mazda driven by a local woman. One officer and the woman suffered minor injuries in the crash; officers had their lights and sirens running, and the other driver had a green light. In September, a man died at an area hospital several days after being hit by a police vehicle in the same intersection.

Burn Advisory in Crawford County
Meadville – The Crawford County Department of Public Safety has issued a countywide burn advisory starting Monday; the advisory will remain in place until there is a significant amount of rain. Authorities in Crawford County report that dry and windy conditions have led to several uncontrolled outdoor fires this fall. Crawford County residents are being urged not to burn when it is dry and windy, to burn materials away from buildings, and to water down surrounding areas during the burn. This is not a burn ban; fires are still permitted as long as they follow these steps and the rules of your municipality.

Traffic Stinks
Edinburg – No serious injuries were reported when a sanitation truck carrying sewage overturned after colliding with an SUV in Lawrence County. Crash scene investigators from the Union Township Police Department report that on Monday afternoon, a woman driving a Lincoln Navigator entered the intersection of Route 422 and Old Youngstown Road near Edinburg and pulled into the path of a sanitation truck carrying untreated sewage. The resulting collision caused heavy damage to both vehicles and caused the truck to overturn. The tank of sewage did not spill, and was retrieved by a second truck.

State News: PSP Kills Armed Assailant
Decker’s Point – In state news, a trooper from the Pennsylvania State Police shot and killed a man who was firing at officers from the roof of a burning building in Indiana County. 34-year-old Jonathan James Pierce was killed by a state trooper returning fire after being attacked with a shotgun in Decker’s Point on Sunday evening. Police were initially summoned to respond to a fight between neighbors, which soon escalated to Pierce shooting at his neighbors with a shotgun. When PSP arrived on the scene, Pierce retreated into his house, started a fire, and then climbed onto the roof to attack them with his shotgun.
