School Begins
NWPA – It is back-to-school season, and students are coming back to school across the region; drivers in the morning and afternoon will once again encounter school buses transporting children. Please remember that in Pennsylvania, all vehicles must stop at least 10 feet away from a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop sign extended, even at a four-way intersection. Vehicles in the opposing lane of traffic are also required to stop unless there is a physical barrier, like a guard rail, between them and the bus.
Do not proceed until the bus has retracted its stop sign and all students have made it safely to the side of the road. Failure to stop can result in a 60-day license suspension, five points on your license, and fines.  If your travel needs are time-sensitive and the stop/start of being behind a school bus makes you late, consider leaving earlier. Let’s make this the safest year for students taking the bus ever.
