Two Pedestrians Killed by Cars in One Weekend
Edinboro – Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook confirmed that a man who was hit by a vehicle at an Edinboro gas station on Thursday night died Friday. 81-year-old Daniel Keith of Varnville, South Carolina, passed away at UPMC Hamot less than 24 hours after he was struck by a car pulling out of a parking space at a Country Fair in Edinboro and had to be airlifted from the scene. Daniel was the first of two pedestrians killed by vehicles in Edinboro last week; a Meadville woman was killed by injuries she sustained after being hit by a car on Erie Street on Friday night.
79-year-old Loretta Dobos was hit by a car driven by an 82-year-old man named Frank Denk at about 6:15 p.m. on Friday evening. Loretta died about an hour later at UPMC Hamot in Erie. The Pennsylvania State Police based in Girard are investigating both cases.

Rider Falls, Breaks Neck, at Race
Erie – A horse jockey suffered a broken neck last week during a race at Presque Isle Downs. Ronnie Alan ‘Rock N’ Roll’ Jr fell from a horse named Keep In Touch after it stumbled during the 8th race at the Downs on Tuesday. Ronnie suffered injuries to his C3 and C4 vertebrae when he was kicked by a trailing horse. The 61-year-old has won more than 4,000 races in his career and has been injured at Presque Isle Downs before. A GoFundMe campaign benefiting Ronnie has raised $28,000 out of a $35,000 goal at press time.

Explosion Rocks Lawrence County
Ellwood City – In Lawrence County, an explosion left a building in Ellwood City badly damaged this morning. At press time, there are no reports of injuries or fatalities after an explosion rocked the building at 801 Aetna Drive, which was once Walnut Ridge Elementary School. People who live more than two miles away from the burst reported hearing the sound and feeling the blast wave from the explosion. Ellwood City Police and Fire Departments, the Pennsylvania State Police, and Columbia Gas are all investigating the cause of the explosion.

Bayfront Connector Closed to Traffic
Erie – Erie’s Bayfront Parkway and State Street will be closed between Sassafrass and Holland Streets for about a year, starting today. PennDOT has been warning drivers about the closure for months, and it has finally happened. The closure is for major renovations and improvements to the area. A detour for through traffic uses 12th Street and Green Garden Boulevard, while access to hotels and businesses along the parkway is possible through Sassafrass, East and West Front, and Holland Streets.

County Commissioner Arrested for Drugs
Allentown – A Lehigh County Commissioner was arrested over the weekend as part of a multi-state bust of drug traffickers. 22 arrests were made in total in four Pennsylvania Counties, but also in New York City, Chicago, and Wisconsin. Among the arrests was Lehigh County Commissioner Zachary Cole-Borghi, who has since been released on bail. Due to the weekend, no court records were available at the time of publication, so we do not know the charges he faces. Lehiegh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan has said that all the arrests were made as part of a three-year investigation.
