Man Drives Straight into Ditch and gets DUI Charge
Hydetown – A 67-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing his car into a muddy ditch near Hydetown. Richard Morrison of Titusville ended up with his car in a ditch after failing to turn on Gretchen Road and driving straight into a ditch in the opposite lane of the road at 10:30 AM on Friday morning.
National Work Zone Awareness Week
Harrisburg – The week of April 17th is National Work Zone Awareness Week. The week is dedicated to reminding the public that working on public roads and highways is a dangerous job with live traffic often only a few feet from laborers and technicians. This year’s theme is ‘You play a role in work zone safety’; PennDOT, the Turnpike Commission, and others want to remind you to always pay attention to road signs and avoid distracted driving. Nationally, 1,293 work zone crashes killed 14 highway workers last year. In Pennsylvania, 171 intrusions injured 13 PennDOT employees last year.
Killer Mother Returned to PA
Horshum – Yesterday, Ruth Direnzio-Whitehead was returned to Pennsylvania by New Jersey authorities to face first-degree murder charges. Direnzio-Whitehead confessed to murdering her own son after being arrested in New Jersey last week. She told police that last Monday morning she put a belt around the neck of her sleeping son Matthew and strangled him to death after she became worried about financial issues at home. She then fled to New Jersey where authorities found her at a family cottage after her SUV was discovered partially submerged in the ocean.
