MPD Searches for Evidence in Car Break-Ins Case
Meadville – On Saturday night, six teenagers were arrested in Meadville after allegedly breaking into several vehicles. According to the City Manager, The City of Meadville Police Department is asking for any residents who may have witnessed the suspects or caught their actions with security cameras to contact them by calling them on the non-emergency line at (814)724-6100.
Changes to PACDL Tests
Harrisburg – PennDOT has announced modernizations to the Certified Driver’s License (or CDL) tests which will come into effect next Monday, August 28th. Future CDL testing will remove outdated elements of the testing and include newer elements reflecting modern technology; it will also have different standards for bus drivers than for commercial truckers that reflect the realities of both jobs. Fatal Crashes Killed two Motorcyclists
The region had two fatal motorcycle accidents on Saturday. Jed Davis of Hermitage was killed on Route 322 in Crawford County just south of Meadville when he collided with a car attempting to make a turn onto the road from a parking lot; he succumbed to his injuries at UPMC’s Hospital in Greenville. On Edinboro Road in Washington Township, Erie County, Dustin Koszarek was attempting to legally pass a pickup truck that made a left turn and collided with his bike and killing him at the scene of the crash. Investigators at both crashes have not determined whether there will be charges.
Mercer County Digital Literacy Program Receives Funding Boost
Sharon – The West Central Workforce Development Board has received a $45,000 grant for its digital literacy program. The program helps residents of Mercer and Lawrence Counties with low technological aptitude gain basic computer literacy skills, especially career-related ones. The West Central Workforce Development Board is part of PA Careerlink located in Sharon.
PA Unemployment Rate Lowest Ever
Harrisburg – According to the Department of Labor and Industry, Pennsylvania’s Unemployment Rate in July fell to a new record low of 3.5%. The Commonwealth has added over 143,000 new jobs this year, mainly in health and education. The highest number of Pennsylvanians are employed in the State’s history with over 6,149,000 people working at least one job, though underemployment and wages are still problems.
