The Pennsylvania State Police released their information about crash and DUI statistics over the Christmas enforcement period. This year we had about a 26% increase in total traffic accidents from last year but saw a decrease in alcohol related crashes. The State Police recorded 661 crashes, 36 of which involved alcohol; five crashes were fatal and of them, two were alcohol related; there were 113 reported injuries this year. Locally there were 55 crashes and seven injuries, none of them involved alcohol and there were no fatal accidents. There were 116 DUI arrests by PSP, only one by the local Troop E. The five fatal crashes across the state led to seven deaths, one higher than last year.

In state news, Lawyers representing the accused Tree of Life Synagogue shooter, Robert Bowers, are accusing the FBI of deliberately sending empty DNA samples to an independent lab to be tested by scientists hired by the defense. The defense attorneys claim that 11 out of 17 samples they requested were empty. Bowers is scheduled to be on trial in April 2023.
