Fiery Crash Injures Man
Fairview – Police are investigating the cause of a fiery crash that hospitalized a 20-year-old man on Friday night. In Mercer County’s Fairview Township, Camaron Gallagher of Clark’s Mills was airlifted from the scene of a crash on Perry Highway and may have died if not for a nearby resident who extinguished a fire in the car before first responders could arrive. Camaron drove his Chevrolet Cobalt off of the road and through someone’s front yard at about 8:15 PM on Friday. Police and eyewitness say that the car went airborne at the end of that yard and collided with multiple trees before coming to a stop and catching on fire. After bystanders extinguished the fire and emergency services arrived, firefighters had to cut Camaron from the car and he was flown to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown by STAT Medivac.

PennDOT Work Schedules
Oil City – PennDOT’s work schedule this week includes the beginning of a paving project on Route 6 in Union City which will cause traffic delays for most of the summer; drivers are being warned to watch for flaggers and temporary signs and signals in the work zone. This week’s complete schedule of PennDOT projects in Crawford, Forest, Erie, Mercer, Venango, and Warren Counties has been posted online at PennDOT.gov/District1. Clarion County is in District 10.

Teacher of the Year Nominees
Harrisburg – Pennsylvania’s Department of Education has announced its twelve nominees for 2024’s Teacher of the Year and two of them are from Western Pennsylvania. Dr. Khalid Mumin is the acting Secretary of Education and commended each one at a press conference over the weekend; he said that a final choice will be made in December. Rachel Kalberer from Norwin School District and Justin Ward from Laurel Highlands School District are both teachers in Western PA; the other 10 are Anthony Angelini, Brittney Bell, Jonathan Bickel, Ashlie Crosson, Benjamin Hoffman, Heather Kilgore, Stephanie Machmer, Aspen Mock, Sharon Williams, and Sally Ann Wojcik.
